I think I shared with you all t hat my garden was a bit random this year. I literally had two to three tomatoes turn red! and the rest remained green... who the heck knows!
Good thing there are plenty of great dishes to make with the green tomatoes, like these dairy free fried green tomatoes. They are crispy and delicious, and as with all the food that is typically "fried" I have a baking version to minimize the excessive oil without loosing flavour.
Because I use no pesticides, I tend to grow some things on the "fugly" side, but they are healthy and delicious so don't judge a book by its cover lol.. I chopped these into generous 2 Cm dials..... not from Canada? or other metric based countries... my best guess is I am also saying a 1/2 inch dial? don't quote me but I'm close, and this measurement doesn't throw off the project :)
I see one of my tomatoes at least thought of turning red at one point.. jeesh!
These were almost organic! Flour, tomatoes, nut milk... darn conventional bread crumbs! If anyone knows of a great organic brand of bread crumbs I'm all ears!!! Or I suppose I could do as I suggest and check out amazon.. lets see? But before we do.. these have the same as any other breading method... flour, egg and (nut) milk wash, to bread crumbs... and fry!
soooooo...... that's the worst picture ever but we are all human!!!... That's my tomatoes in stark white flour with a flash.... sorry... moving on......
I always use avocado oil, because its healthy and is high heat! shallow pan of oil does the trick to brown both sides.... I then pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees to bake the tomatoes through with lest oil... you are very welcome... so is my family!
ahh it's a beautiful thing... I would say that these need 20 minutes tops and serving immediately is a bonus. That's not to say left overs don't warm up nicely because they do!... let me show you~!!!! I give you fried green tomatoes two ways........
Served along side Brisket, with a fresh arugula salad... doesn't get more southern than that right? At least I think ..... what to know how to cook a brisket? I've got you... check it out here!
Or an amazing appetizer!!
What's that delicious sauce you say? It's chipotle aioli... you can check it out here>>>>
No waste no want! These were delicious, they made me feel good for using up my "fugly" stragglers in the garden and I fed my family healthy and delicious food... whagt could be better than that?
