Healthy Dog Treats that Freshen Breath

Why not help yourself, while you help your pet... win win!

As several of my posts start I was flipping through Pinterest and saw a post from lemonpeony.com #lemonpeony about coconut mint dog treats, she has some great ideas!

I had never fed my dog coconut oil before and again I tried feeding him a mint leaf once, and he just chewed it a bit and spit it out! I didn't want to try a whole batch to risk a flop for my dog. Then I remembered that I had seen several dog treats in pets stores that boasted cinnamon! So I researched it and for sure! Cinnamon is safe and is actually recommended to fight bad doggy breath. Win.... you know what also goes well with Cinnamon? Apples! So that's the convoluted path that created this recipe! The Coconut oil, apple cinnamon mint dog treat.... and its ridiculously easy and fast!

I finely chopped the mint leaves, mostly to just get rid of as many stems as I could.

I put 1 cup of coconut oil in the microwave for 30 seconds to liquify.

I cored the apple (apple seeds are not safe for dogs) and added the apples, mint, liquid coconut oil and cinnamon to my Ninja food processor and emulsified quickly before the oil started solidifying again! I poured the mix into the molds and threw them in the freezer!

They froze in no time at all and popped out of the mould easily to remain stored in the freezer to take out as needed for your dog.

The Recipe:

1 apple cored

1 cup coconut oil liquified

1/2 cup mint leaves

1 Tbsp Cinnamon

blend all ingredients together in a food processor.

This amount should make approximately 26-30 breath mints.
