The Best Baked Beans Ever!!

This homemade recipe is the bomb and takes your baked beans to the next level of flavour

I love baked beans, but I don't like the overly sweet ones or the pork and bean variety that you often see in cans at the store. I love a true BBQ baked beans which are hard to come by. The kind that has an amazing molasses flavour along with all of the other elements added to this mix.

Here was my starting lineup! As you know I try to eat organically whenever possible. There are lots of grocery stores now that create their own brand of staple products that are organic. It keeps the cost down and makes it completely reasonable for me to purchase them over conventional products... these beans and coconut sugar are no different.

I rinsed two cans of pinto beans and placed them in a pot with 1 full chopped red onion and 1 can of lager. You can probably use any beer you have on hand but I wouldn't go too light and definitely don't go to a stout or really dark beer. Put this mix on the stove and start cooking on medium heat.

I then brewed a single cup of dark roast coffee and added that to the beans and onions as well and continued cooking the beans to break down their natural fibers.

I also added in 1 Tbsp of minced garlic and 1/2 a cup of tomato sauce. Continue to cook on medium heat, stirring regularly.

The next layer to the flavour profile is chipotle pepper sauce, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar and molasses. I would use the balsamic, Worshestershire and chipotle sparingly at first and add more as you taste it, but be generous with the molasses. I love just creating a swirl around the top before mixing it in!

Once it has all rendered down it should no longer be liquidy but more spoonable where the contents remain on your spoon and hold together. Pair it with your favourite BBQ meal and Enjoy!

The recipe:

2 cans of pinto beans

1 full red onion diced

1 can of lager

1 cup of dark roast brewed coffee

1 Tbsp of minced garlic

1/2 cup of tomato sauce

Approximate:

3-4 Tbsp molasses

2 Tsp chipotle sauce

2 Tsp Worshestershire sauce

2 Tsp of balsamic vinegar

Stir and render down for about 1 hour, stirring constantly medium heat. Towards the end you will need to lower the heat to a low simmer.
