The Smoked Manhattan

I changed this up ever so slightly with the addition of Quarenta y Tres and smoke!.

So I got the idea of smoking this drink from manmadediy.com but I didn't use his technique exactly. I have Traeger smoker so I figured I would infuse the sweet smoked flavour from there. To start I took an empty mason jar and placed it on the grill upside down and placed the Traeger on smoke so the heat did not risk breaking the glass. Once the jar filled with a significant amount of smoke I slid the lid underneath and trapped it inside. If you do not have a Traeger check out their website which allows you to make this with no special equipment required.






From there I poured 2 shots of bourbon inside tilting the jar to the side to avoid as much smoke release as I could and sealed it again. Pretty cool hey? I simply swirled it around every once and a while and let the smoke infuse the bourbon for 20 minutes.




I then added 1 shot of Quarenta y Tres which is a vanilla citrus flavoured liqueur, 3 drops of orange bitters and 1/2 a shot of dry vermouth.



I stirred this and poured over ice and served! It added to the original Manhattan flavour I found and definitely an interesting conversation piece about the smoked bourbon! I hope you try it.
